These are written by a competitor, so weigh them accordingly. We have tried to be accurate about where each alternative is genuinely the better choice — including when that means you should not buy from us.

## One thing that applies to all of them Since 2 February 2025, [EU AI Act Article 5(1)(f)](/guides/eu-ai-act-engagement-analytics) has prohibited AI systems that infer emotions from biometric data in workplaces and education institutions. Fines reach €35 million or 7% of global turnover, and there is no consent exception. That constrains **every** facial emotion analysis product in this category when deployed to employees or students — iMotions, Affectiva, MorphCast, and Emotuit's own Learn configuration. It is not a competitive claim, it is a fact about the category. Client-side processing does not change it. The prohibition concerns the inference, not where the computation happens. If you are evaluating for EU corporate training or education, ask every vendor on your shortlist — including us — one question: **does your engagement score require a camera?** Then [work through the test](/tools/ai-act-applicability-checker).
